How to Clean a 2000 Toyota Camry's Throttle Body
The throttle body on a 2000 Toyota Camry uses a butterfly valve to control the amount of air that comes into the engine. Over time, particulates can get through the air filter and the throttle body can start to develop a coat of gunk and grime. This can affect the movement of the butterfly valve, and cause a sticky throttle. This can potentially cause an accident. Cleaning the throttle body also lubricates the linkage for the valve, and fixes the problem.
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Throttle body cleaner spray
- Mechanic's rags
Remove the hose clamp securing the intake tubing to the throttle body using the flat-head screwdriver. Pull the tubing off of the intake by hand.
Spray the inside of the throttle body with the throttle body cleaner. Tilt the butterfly open with your hand and spray the linkage on the butterfly valve with the cleaner as well.
Wipe down the inside of the throttle body using the mechanic's rags. Then reinstall the intake tubing and install the hose clamp on the tubing using the flat-head screwdriver.
