How to Rotate Tires on a Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma is a reliable mid-size pick-up truck that has been on the market since the late 1990s. The older models were more compact and could be lifted on four jacks to rotate the tires. The newer, heavier models are best lifted on a hydraulic lift. If you choose to rotate the tires yourself, then use four heavy-duty jack stands. Rotate the tires at least every 6,000 miles.

  • Four heavy-duty jacks
  • Lug nut wrench

      Park the truck on a flat surface and loosen the lug nuts on each of the tires with a lug nut wrench.

      Place a piece of wood behind the back tires to keep the truck from rolling while you jack up the front of the truck. Put two jacks under the front of the vehicle, one on each side.

      Lift the rear up on another two jack, leaving just enough room to take off the tires.

      Use an "X" pattern to rotate the tires. Move the passenger side rear tire to the front, and passenger side front to driver side rear. Switch driver side rear tire to the front and driver side front to passenger side rear.

      Tighten the lug nuts by hand tight enough to hold them on while you lower the truck.

      Lower the rear first and replace the wood behind the tires. Lower the front end and then go around and tighten each lug nut to its tightest fit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't allow anyone to go under the truck while it is in the air.

  • Never use bumper jacks to raise the truck because it's unsafe and can damage the bumpers.
